Awakening by Source Potential

Meditation For Effortless Presence

Awakening is a consciousness exploration app rooted in Taoist wu wei and Vedantic clarity. It offers a progression from guided presence (interoceptive stillness), to exteroceptive awareness, where meditation expands beyond the body into the living field of experience itself. Gentle guidance, spacious silence, and optional binaural beats invite awareness to reveal itself naturally, without streaks, reminders, or rituals. Nothing is forced; awakening unfolds because it already lives here.

What is awakening?

Consciousness Observing Itself

Awakening is the realization of all that is; like a tree's branch that moves with the wind, it just happens, the wind isn't forcing it, the branch isn't resisting it. While many on the journey discover that nothing truly matters, to imply it is all meaningless is another trap of the ego. Meaning belongs to the mind, but life itself requires no purpose, no meaning; it simply unfolds, radiant and aware.

Everything just happens. You breathe, your heart beats, the rain drops, the sun rises. There is no path that leads to enlightenment, because that would mean walking away from yourself. The journey to awakening isn’t a movement toward something else, but the direct seeing that consciousness is reality unfolding.

At Source Potential we explore these insights through the philosophical works of R.J. Hills, thought-provoking videos on our YouTube channel, and now through the Awakening meditation iOS app.

No forced rituals, no narratives of lack; only the quiet curiosity that notices what is already here. Through this deepening of interoceptive and exteroceptive awareness, you will rediscover that consciousness isn’t confined to the body, but moves as the whole of life itself.

Every interpretation belongs to the mind, yet the experience of being simply breathes. Meaning is neither granted nor denied; it unfolds as you notice. - R.J. Hills

Stillness

Simple attention settles itself. Breath, sensation, and the space between, meet as one clear field of awareness. Guidance not to teach, but to gently point.

Sound

Rain from a cabin in the Appalachian mountains, birds from the South Downs of England, combined with binaural beats and studio precision to keep the texture pure.

Intention

Choose your root intention, the point from which practice grows, and the guidance responds naturally. Nothing to manage or control. A simple alignment with the root, and awareness speaks for itself.

Binaural Beats

Binaural beats appear naturally within certain meditations. Two frequencies meet to create a subtle pulse the mind perceives as one. They don’t lead or change awareness, only join the space already present. Use them when alignment calls, or fade them out to rest in silence instead.

Meditation: Guided presence

Intention-aware meditations that respond to where you are. Each session unfolds through natural stages: arrival, immersion, and integration, while our advanced audio engine weaves professionally recorded nature sounds with optional binaural beats.

  • Adaptive guidance: Choose your root intention and let the narration meet you naturally, from gentle awareness to deeper inquiry.
  • Studio-grade soundscapes: Field recordings from Appalachian mountains, English countryside, and Nordic streams, captured with professional audio equipment.
  • Progressive depths: Sessions range from brief 5-minute touchstones to expansive 60-minute journeys, each maintaining perfect audio continuity.

Relaxation: Your custom sanctuary

A beautifully designed timer that transforms any duration into a personal retreat. Layer nature sounds, adjust binaural frequencies, and let the advanced Ambience Engine create your perfect sonic environment.

  • Ambience Engine: Seamless loop technology prewarms each sound layer, ensuring zero gaps or stutters even in hour-long sessions.
  • Precision binaural beats: Real-time synthesis from delta (deep rest) through theta (meditation) to alpha (relaxed awareness), perfectly tuned to your chosen soundscape.
  • Nature’s orchestra: Mix rain, birds, streams, and wind from our professionally recorded library. Each sound captured in pristine natural environments.

Philosophy: Wisdom for the curious

Monthly essays and contemplations that explore consciousness through the lens of Taoist wu wei and Vedantic insight. Not instruction but invitation: words that point back to what you already know.

  • Living inquiry: Essays that meet you in the questions rather than rushing toward answers, honoring the intelligence of not-knowing.
  • Ancient wisdom, modern voice: Timeless teachings presented without dogma, connecting Lao Tzu and Ramana Maharshi to your morning coffee.

Awakening FAQ

Everything you need to know about the waitlist, app experience, and what comes next.

Who is this meditation app for?

Awakening is for anyone who feels the quiet pull toward presence: seasoned practitioners, curious beginners, the gently skeptical, and those who have tried every productivity ritual and still sense something deeper. If you value guidance that points back to what is already here, rather than gamifying your awareness, you are already part of the audience we built this for.

What do "interoceptive stillness" and "exteroceptive awareness" mean?

In contemporary neuroscience, interoception is the capacity to sense the body's internal landscape: breath, heartbeat, and visceral rhythms. This network is largely mediated by the vagus nerve and represented in the insular cortex. Research shows that refining this sensing improves emotional regulation and resilience, because the nervous system registers safety before the mind can label it. Exteroceptive awareness expands that same clarity outward, inviting the senses to rest on sound, light, and motion without clinging. The two are not separate circuits, but a continuum: steadiness inside allows perception outside to stay open rather than reactive.

Taoist practice describes this as wu wei, the effortless participation in the Tao. When the inner currents are unforced and quietly noticed, qi is free to harmonize with the environment. Awareness flows from the lower dantian (the body’s energetic center) through the senses without meeting resistance, so the ordinary world feels like an ally rather than a threat to manage.

Vedantic teaching names the same recognition as the union of Atman and Brahman. Interoceptive stillness reveals the substratum of awareness that is prior to sensations; exteroceptive openness lets forms arise within that same consciousness without dividing the seer and the seen. When practice moves between these poles, the insight is practical as well as transcendent: the nervous system is soothed, and the non-dual truth that "this" and "I" are the same field becomes lived experience.

How does Awakening relate to the illusion of separateness?

Physicist David Bohm proposed that the universe unfolds from an implicate order, a seamless flow he called the holomovement. What appears as discrete objects, including our own bodies, are explicate expressions of that deeper wholeness. In this view each part carries the pattern of the whole, much like a fragment of a hologram contains the entire image. The sensation of a bounded "me" is a practical appearance, but the underlying field of consciousness is continuous.

Bohm explored this further with Jiddu Krishnamurti, noticing how thought creates psychological division by naming and defending a center. When attention listens without resistance, the contraction loosens and there is a felt sense that the same intelligence breathes through the forests, the mind, and (we have a meditation called "The Space Between" for this reason). The individual does not vanish; it is recognised as a local movement of a greater presence rather than a separate origin.

What happens when I request access to the beta?

When the beta build is ready, you’ll receive an invitation with simple instructions to install Awakening through Apple's TestFlight. During the beta testing period the app is free.

Isn't this just like all the other meditation apps? What makes this different?

No. Awakening was created from within the realization itself, drawing on Taoist and Vedantic understanding. There’s no striving toward awakening, it’s the simple recognition of what already is. Modern meditation apps often turn practice into self-improvement, filled with goals, reminders, and score streaks. But awareness doesn’t need gamification. Just as you don't need to force the in or out breath, meditation unfolds naturally when effort drops away. The Awakening app offers a space for that—presence without agenda, silence without aim.

Beyond meditation, the app includes original essays and contemplations on consciousness, perception, and the nature of being. These writings are not instruction but an invitation to reflect on the same insight found in the meditations: that awareness is not something to attain, but the very fabric of consciousness noticing itself.

How much will Awakening cost?

Awakening will be $9.99 per month, or $69 per year (saving 42%). Every membership unlocks new meditations released each month and companion philosophy essays that explore consciousness and the nature of reality.

Do I need headphones to experience the binaural beats?

Headphones are recommended for the full binaural immersion, but every soundscape is mixed to remain calming and immersive on speakers as well. If you are not listening with headphones or find the binaural beats too much, simply use the mixer within the app to turn it down or off completely.

Will the Awakening app help me achieve my own awakening?

We don't promise any such thing. At the same time I will not promise that chopsticks will make it any easier to eat noodles. For some, the chopsticks become second nature, like breathing or writing with a pen. Do you need chopsticks? Of course not. You don't need this meditation app. Some people achieve awakening through the course of their day-to-day lives. Some with the use of psychedelics. But for many, meditation that aligns with Taoist principles and Vedantic teachings helps nudge them towards deeply profound experiences and awakening.
