How do I download Awakening?

Awakening is available on the App Store for iPhone and iPad. Tap the link or search for "Awakening Binaural Meditation" to install.

How do I sign in to Awakening?

Awakening offers two sign-in methods: Sign in with Apple or email magic link.

Sign in with Apple: Tap the Apple button to use your Apple ID. This is the fastest option and keeps your email private if you prefer.

Email magic link: Enter your email address and tap Send Link. Check your inbox for a secure one-time link, then tap it on the same device to complete sign-in. No password required.

Important: The magic link must open in Safari. If another browser is set as your default, long-press the link in your email and choose Open in Safari, or temporarily set Safari as your default browser in iOS Settings.

What happens during onboarding?

When you first open Awakening, you'll see four introduction screens explaining the app's philosophy: welcoming you to the practice, honouring silent presence, introducing binaural beats, and inviting you to set your intention.

After these screens, you'll choose a root intention from eight options (Introspection, Synchronicity, Alignment, Shadow Work, Healing, Clarity, Exploration, or Release). This intention personalises your meditation guidance.

Once you've chosen your intention, you'll select a subscription plan (monthly or annual). Both include a 14-day free trial. You can cancel anytime during the trial at no charge. If you don't cancel, billing begins automatically at the end of the trial period.

How much does Awakening cost?

Awakening offers two subscription options:

Monthly: $9.99 per month

Annual: $69 per year (equivalent to $5.75/month, saving 42% compared to monthly)

Both plans include a 14-day free trial. New meditations and philosophy articles are released monthly.

How do I manage or cancel my subscription?

All billing runs through Apple. To manage your subscription:

1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad

2. Tap your name at the top (Apple ID)

3. Tap Subscriptions

4. Find Awakening and tap to view options

From here you can change your plan, enable or disable auto-renewal, or cancel. You'll retain access until the end of your current billing period.

You can also access subscription management from within Awakening: go to Profile & Settings, tap Account Settings, then tap Manage Subscription.

How do I restore my subscription on a new device?

If you've reinstalled the app or switched devices, your subscription should restore automatically when you sign in with the same Apple ID.

If it doesn't appear immediately, go to Profile & Settings, tap Account Settings, then tap Restore Purchases. This syncs your subscription status with the App Store.

How are refunds handled?

Apple manages refunds for App Store subscriptions. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com from the Apple ID that was billed to submit a request.

If you need help with a refund request, use the Contact Support button at the top of this page and include the email address associated with your Apple ID (or the email on your receipt). We'll assist however we can.

Profile & Settings

Customise your experience, manage audio, and adjust preferences.

How do I change my root intention?

Your root intention guides all meditations by default. To change it:

1. Go to Profile & Settings

2. Under Intentions, tap Root Intention

3. Select a new intention from the eight options

You can also set different intentions for individual meditations. Long-press a meditation card and choose Set Intentions to customise that session without changing your global root intention.

How do I restart onboarding?

If you want to experience the introduction again or set a fresh intention:

1. Go to Profile & Settings

2. Tap Account Settings

3. Under Profile, tap Restart Onboarding

4. Confirm by tapping Restart

This clears all your intentions and shows the onboarding flow again. Your subscription and other settings remain intact.

How do I adjust audio settings?

Awakening provides several audio customisation options in Profile & Settings:

Audio Mixer: Adjust the balance between voice guidance, ambient sounds, and binaural beats. Tap Audio Mixer to access the sliders. You can also access the mixer directly from the meditation player or timer screen. Changes apply across the entire app, not just a single session.

Bowl Sound: Choose which singing bowl sound plays at the end of meditations. Tap Bowl Sound to hear previews and select your preference.

Headphone Reminders: Toggle this on to see a reminder when playing audio through speakers. Binaural beats work best with headphones.

How do I change the app's appearance?

Awakening supports light mode, dark mode, or matching your system setting.

Go to Profile & Settings, then under Appearance, select System, Light, or Dark.

How do I add or change my display name?

Go to Profile & Settings, tap Account Settings, then under Profile tap your name (or "Add your name" if not set). Enter your preferred name and save.

This name is stored securely and syncs across your devices.

Offline Use & Downloads

Use Awakening without an internet connection.

Can I use Awakening offline?

Yes. Once you've signed in at least once, Awakening works offline. Your meditation progress, intentions, and preferences are stored locally and sync to the cloud when you reconnect.

If your subscription was verified before going offline, you'll retain access until the cached expiration date passes. If it expires while offline, you'll see a prompt to reconnect to verify your subscription status.

How do I download meditations for offline use?

Many meditations are available to download, and new ones are added regularly. On a meditation card, look for the download button (cloud with arrow). Tap it to download the meditation to your device.

Downloaded meditations play without an internet connection. Some meditations are bundled with the app and don't require downloading.

How do I manage downloaded content?

Go to Profile & Settings, then under Storage tap Manage Downloads.

Here you can see how much space is used by downloaded meditations and cached philosophy articles. You can delete individual meditations or clear all downloaded content.

Deleting downloads frees space on your device. Meditations remain available to re-download anytime.

Account & Privacy

Sign out, delete your account, or manage privacy settings.

Is analytics required?

Analytics is disabled by default. If you choose to enable it, we receive anonymous, aggregated data to understand which features help most.

To change this setting, go to Profile & Settings, tap Account Settings, then under Privacy toggle Enable Analytics on or off.

Analytics never includes personal information such as your email, name, or meditation content. You can disable it at any time.

What information does Awakening collect?

In short: we collect only what's needed to provide your experience, we never sell or share your data, and payment details stay with Apple.

How do I sign out?

Go to Profile & Settings, tap Account Settings, then tap Sign Out.

Signing out removes your downloaded content, progress, and preferences from this device. When you sign back in (using the same Apple ID or email), your data syncs from the cloud.

How do I delete my account?

Go to Profile & Settings, tap Account Settings, then tap Delete Account.

If you have an active subscription, you'll need to cancel it through the App Store first.

For security, Firebase requires recent authentication before allowing account deletion. If it has been more than five minutes since you signed in, you'll be prompted to sign out and sign back in. After signing in again, return to Account Settings and you'll be able to complete the deletion.

Account deletion permanently removes all your data, including meditation progress, intentions, and preferences. This cannot be undone.

If you can't access the app, use the Contact Support button at the top of this page and include the email address associated with your account. We'll process the deletion for you.

How do I ask a privacy question?

Email [email protected] with your request. Include the email you use to sign in so we can verify account ownership.

Troubleshooting

Why is my audio quiet or not playing?

First, check the basics:

Make sure your device isn't in silent mode (check the physical switch on the side of your iPhone)

Turn up the media volume using the volume buttons

If using Bluetooth headphones, ensure they're connected and charged

For the full binaural experience, use wired or wireless headphones. The spatial audio effects don't work through speakers.

If audio drops during playback, check your internet connection for streaming meditations, or try downloading the meditation for offline use.

Why do I need headphones for binaural beats?

Binaural beats work by playing slightly different frequencies in each ear. Your brain perceives the difference as a third tone, which can help guide you into deeper meditative states.

This only works when each ear receives a separate signal, so headphones (wired or wireless) are essential. Playing through speakers mixes the signals and eliminates the binaural effect.

Why isn't my progress syncing between devices?

Make sure you're signed in with the same account (Apple ID or email) on all devices.

Check that you have an internet connection. Progress syncs automatically when connected.

If syncing seems stuck, try closing and reopening the app. Your data is stored locally and will sync when connectivity is restored.
